I’m excited that Rui Yamagishi from Kanazawa, Japan will headline the Denver Magic Show on September 9th, 2019!
The story of how I found Rui to perform in Denver requires knowing a bit about night life in Japan.
In Japan, after a long day at work, it is expected that you will go out with your co-workers to socialize. These social outings can last several hours and generally involve the consumption of alcohol as workers blow off steam while moving from bar to bar.
As a result, themed bars are popular in Japan – each bar offering a unique attraction to bring customers in.
Back in February, I was traveling throughout Japan and stopped in Kanazawa. Since magic bars are popular, I searched and found Magic Bar Kanazawa Style. And after a bit of Facebook stalking, I found Rui and let him know that I wanted to see him perform.
Rui was very friendly and welcomed me to his bar where he performs magic 6 nights a week and serves drinks to late-night patrons. His bar is decorated with posters of magicians, magic books, and video screens with clips of famous magicians. But the real draw is Rui himself.
Over the past 10 years, he has been quietly honing his craft by performing magic from 7:00pm until 3:00am. His bar is small, accommodating 25 people at a time, but the close proximity allows him to perform miracles for his patrons.
Needless to say, he proceeded to blow my mind for 6 hours. He performed many of the classics of magic including linking rings, cups and balls, and routines with cards and coins. Most of his magic is his own creation, and he is an elegant and graceful performer.
After watching him perform, I knew that he would be the perfect fit for the Rocky Mountain Session and the Denver Magic Show.

You can see Rui perform at the Patterson Inn (420 E. 11th Avenue, Denver) on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $30 for General Admission and $40 for VIP Seating.
