This week, I had the opportunity to perform walk-around mentalism for Samsung and Verizon. They hosted a phone release event at Tamayo in downtown Denver and wanted a mentalist to perform during their cocktail hour. More importantly, they asked me to customize my script to match their message. Over several days, I worked to create a customized performance that would let attendees know about the new features of the phone and why the phone stands out among different brands.
On the night of the event, I mingled with the crowd and performed mind reading as guests arrived. The client provided appetizers and an open bar which made the evening a lot of fun. Take a look at the guests’ reactions in the photos below to see how much they loved the mentalism. Also, I want to say thanks to Bobby Burch for these incredible photos.
While I was performing, many people hadn’t heard of a mentalist. So, they asked me to explain the different between mentalism and magic. I told them that magic is generally for your eyes. For example, you can watch a card change from one card to another, you can see a ring link onto another ring, or a ball appear under a cup. On the other hand, mentalism is for your mind. You may have your mind read, you may read the mind of your friend, be influenced in a game of which hand, or have your actions predicted.
Walk-around Mentalism is the perfect fit for cocktail parties since it happens up close and each routine only takes a few minutes to perform. This means that I can mingle around the room and perform for different groups of people. If people are standing by themselves, I make sure to bring them into a group and introduce them to the other people at the party.
Mentalism is also quite different from what an audience is used to seeing. There is a chance that your guests have seen a walk-around magician, but it is very rare for them to see a walk-around mentalist. So, mentalism is fantastic if you are looking for a different type of entertainment that will really impress your guests.
I’d love to perform mentalism for your next event. Click here to get in touch.
