The Denver Magic Show has now had 4 months of successful shows at the Patterson Inn. In order to promote the show, we commissioned R Black to design posters. R. Black is known for his amazing style and has designed posters for production companies such as the San Diego Opera. I’m also excited that he is creating his own version tarot deck of cards.
Creating a design concept for the Denver Magic Show was quite challenging since we showcase different magicians in Denver. So, we couldn’t feature specific magician on the poster since our lineup changes every week. We also wanted to get away from the popular clichés in magic. For example, people often think that magic is for children or that it’s equal to pulling a rabbit from a hat.
When you attend the Denver Magic Show, our goal is to make you feel like you time traveled to the Vaudeville era of the late 1890s to early 1930s. The Denver Magic Show seats 20 – 30 guests and the magic happens up close. It’s as if you are watching a show in the parlor of a friend’s home. The evening is also sophisticated with custom cocktails and guests wearing cocktail attire.
The poster that R Black designed for our show is a throwback to the classic magicians of the Vaudeville era. Many magic posters from that time feature imps sitting on the shoulders of magicians, magicians performing in tuxedos, and bold fonts touting the names of the performers. Just by looking at our poster you can sense a feeling of mystery and that the show is intended for adults.
You may also notice the white gloves which are similar to what Cardini wore while performing difficult sleight of hand. Cardini is one of the most famous magicians touring the Vaudeville circuit in the 1900s. He was part of the British Army in WWI and practiced sleight of hand in the freezing trenches while wearing gloves. This later became the signature piece in his act. You can see him in a rare performance of his act below.
I’d love for you to join us next Monday at the Denver Magic Show. Tickets are $30 for General Admission and $40 for VIP Seating. Tickets also include a cocktail from our bar. The show runs from 7:30 – 9:00, so there is plenty of time to get to bed before the busy work day on Tuesday.
