Magic Open Mic Review

William Rader Mentalist Denver Magic Show

When I perform people often ask where I learn and practice magic. I mainly learn magic from my library that is filled with hundreds of books. When I’m working on new piece of magic, I research as much as I can about a specific trick and then start developing a routine.

As for practicing, I have always believed in getting as much stage time as possible. This is one of the reasons that I produce the Denver Magic Show. This show highlights Denver’s top magicians on the first Monday of every month.

On top of the shows that I produce, I also perform regularly at a magic open mic at Mutiny Cafe. This show let’s me rehearse new material and get it ready before I perform in front of a paying audience.

Last month, our open mic had a reporter come out from On Denver. At first, she was highly skeptical, but ended up enjoyed the show. She wrote this fun description of my performance:

“William Rader, a dimpled cutie-pie with elegant hands like a giraffe, if giraffes had hands, did some manipulations with a ring-and-rope and cards. If Michael Bubledid magic, he might do it like William Rader.

A white dude actually did the best trick of the night, which was nothing more and nothing less than skillful manipulation. William Rader did a long series of legerdemain involving invisibly flipping the cap of an ordinary, non-retractable pen from one end to the other. There’s no magic here except the brilliance of excellent handwork. When done this well, it’s endlessly fascinating.”
